Child participation? Very important!

Did you know that children have the right to be heard? This is even stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. At Espira, we take child participation seriously. For example, our after-school care center Le Garage has a children's council.

What is child participation?
Child participation means that children have a say in decisions that affect their lives. Of course, this is done in a way that is appropriate for their age. The point is that they learn that their opinion matters and that they are heard.

Why is this so important?
Children who are allowed to have a say grow in self-confidence. They dare to express their opinions, learn to take responsibility, and discover how to be considerate of others. They also develop social skills: discussing, listening, and collaborating. These are all things they will need later on, at school and beyond.  The Espira after-school care children's council That is why we have a Children's Council at Espira. The children who participate in the council are selected by the children themselves. They are asked to represent the children in the after-school care center. The council meets once a month to discuss important matters.

That is why we have a children's council at our Le Garage after-school care center. Children aged 8 and older are allowed to come up with and carry out activities themselves and resolve conflicts together (under supervision). This teaches them to make choices and take responsibility in a safe environment – experimenting and making mistakes is allowed!

Investing in the next generation
At Espira, we believe in the power of children. By giving them freedom and offering them good support, they grow into independent young people who know what they want. A new generation that feels connected to others and dares to stand up for what they believe is important. That's what we do it for!
